It's spring, we're all going to die

Three and a half weeks ago my neighbor called and asked me to come over. It was to say goodbye.
She had given her cat to her sister and friends were coming to pick her up.
I thanked her for being such a nice neighbor.
I hugged her, promised to take care of her house, plants, mail and fish and in the afternoon I watched from my bedroom window as she carefully stepped into her friends' car and disappeared out of my life.

Just 3 days after, I met one of those friends, who was dismantling her bed to take with him.
So she could sleep/die in her own bed.
Met his wife the other day, and she gave me an update, I will spare you the details. Let's say there are horrible ways to die.
It's happening right now.
She is either dead already or dies tonight or tomorrow.

It felt like she had given up the moment she stepped out of her own front door. She has lived there for almost 30 years. We were neighbors for 15 of them.
When I saw her get in that car I cried so hard.
I waved (I knew she couldn't see it).
I will write more after the funeral.
